The mean free path A of ultrarelativistic cosmic rays in the presence of a given spectrum of hydromagnetic waves is evaluated. Cosmic rays are scattered in pitch angle by their resonant interactions with hydromagnetic waves; they are also mirror reflected by magnetosonic (or magnetoacoustic) waves. Both effects have to be considered. When the wave spectrum has the Kolmogorov form (F k -513), A is a weak function of the rigidity. Subject headings: cosmic rays - hydromagnetics
