An analysis of new unpolarised diffuse elastic neutron scattering cross sections from weakly ferromagnetic PdNi alloys shows that the polarisation range of an isolated magnetic Ni atom in Pd is of the order of the nearest-neighbour distance only. It is also pointed out that, owing to certain contributions to the observed cross sections which were not considered in previous analyses of such data for various alloy systems, deductions from these data should now be treated with caution.
