This paper describes the design, fabrication, and measurement of a modified spiral‐patch antenna with a shorting pin. The prototype consists of a modified spiral model and was made using the shorting‐pin method. The prototype of the proposed antenna was designed to achieve triple‐band operation at the 2.4‐ and 5‐GHz bands. To obtain a sufficient bandwidth, a foam layer was inserted between the ground plane and the substrate. This is a microstrip antenna for IEEE 802.11a/b WLAN application. The simulated and measured results for the impedance bandwidth, radiation pattern, and gain are presented and discussed herein.
