SUMMARY: A composite agar medium is described for the characterization of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other Gram negative bacilli. Glucose oxidation and the production of ammonia by the arginine dihydrolase system are demonstrable in one tube. This arginine glucose (AG) medium also indicates the evolution of gas by glucose fermenting Gram negative bacilli.
