A high-resolution soft x-ray diagnostic for tomographic imaging of the plasma has been developed for the TdeV tokamak. Five arrays of sixteen surface barrier detectors located at one toroidal location yield chord averaged emission profiles from five different poloidal viewing angles with a time resolution of 10 μs. The Fourier–Bessel reconstruction algorithm with radial and poloidal harmonics up to L=9 and M=4 is used to yield high-resolution 2D emissivity maps of the plasma cross section. Each detector array can be energy filtered by means of various gaseous and solid filters which can be selected separately for specific impurity transport studies and electron temperature measurements. This diagnostic is routinely used on TdeV for the study of plasma position and shape, MHD phenomena, impurity distribution, and heat-pulse transport.
