The dynamic behavior of deep‐bed filtration was studied by considering two limiting situations. In the first case it was assumed that deposition leads to the presence of a reasonably smooth deposite layer over filter grains. In the second case particle aggregates, once formed, were assumed to remain rigid and the deposited particles to act as additional collectors. The effect on filter performance of the media change resulting from the presence of these two types of deposits was examined quantiatively.
