Polyamines and their biosynthetic enzymes are probably ubiquitous in plant cells. Their distribution, their changes in response to such stimuli as light, hormones, pollination, stress and senescence, and their effects when applied exogenously suggest a regulatory role in plants. Polyamine effects probably involve interaction with nucleic acids and membranes.
