This article reviews the current status and new findings in the rheumatic diseases of childhood, including rheumatic fever, strepto-coccal and poststreptoccocal syndromes, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, the spondyloarthropathies, lupus erythematosus, the neonatal lupus syndrome, dermatomyositis, scleroderma, fasciitis, environmentally-induced syndromes resembling fasciitis or scleroderma, Kawasaki disease, vasculitis syndromes, and the antiphospholipid antibody syndrome. Miscellaneous conditions such as Sjogren's syndrome, Sweet syndrome, parvovirus-related arthritis, and some orthopedic conditions important in differential diagnosis are also reviewed.
