The quantity σ ⟂ /σ ∥ of tellurium single crystals is measured in the temperature range 80 to 550°K. The results may be understood under following assumptions: The relaxation time for the scattering of holes by acoustic phonons is nearly isotropic; the relaxation time for the scattering of holes by dislocations is characterized by the relation 〈τ p⟂ 〉 < 〈τ p∥ 〉; the anisotropy of the effective hole mass m p∥ / m p⟂ is markedly temperature‐dependent; the highest valence band edge and the lowest conduction band edge show approximately the same anisotropy between 200 and 550°K.
