The eight independent piezoresistance coefficients of tellurium single crystals containing acceptors with concentrations from 5.8 × 10 14 cm −3 to 4.9 × 10 17 cm −3 are measured. In the extrinsic region all coefficients are independent of temperature. This contradicts a many‐valley structure of the valence band. The anisotropy of the piezoresistance effect is strongly affected by structural defects.
