The respiratory chain of mitochondria which catalyzes the oxidation of succinate with molecular oxygen has been reconstituted from individual components. The system depended on the addition of the following components:succinate dehydrogenase, cytochrome b, cytochrome c1, cytochrome c, cytochrome oxidase, Q10, and phospholipids. The rate of oxidation was quite rapid, comparable to that of submitochondrial particles.
