The consistency of large values of the valence-band offset, {Λ}, in HgTe/CdTe superlattices with magneto-optical experiments is examined in light of data on a 90-{} HgTe/40-{} CdTe superlattice. The data are shown to be consistent with values {Λ}=400±{}40 meV rather than the much smaller cited values. This analysis, when considered with photoemission experiments, leaves intact the conclusion that HgTe/CdTe superlattices are best explained by a large offset.
