The depression of the vapor pressure over solutions of fractionated polyvinyl acetate in benzene and ethanol was studied using a differential manometer. The Huggins' equation was obeyed within the concentration range used, i.e., up to 10% solute concentration. The semiempirical constant μ was evaluated for different fractions and was found to vary with the average molecular weight of the polymer. The heat and entropy of dilution were calculated for one fraction in benzene solution, and the results are discussed in terms of the existing theories of high polymer solutions.
