Production of a Horizontal Non-controlled Magnetic Levitation Motor and Stabilization by Eddy CurrentTsunemasa FUNATSU (Mem.),Mochimitsu KOMORI(Mem.)This paper reports on the fabrication and stabilization of a horizontal style non-controlled magnetic levitation motor. The destabilizing force in the axial direction was offset by arranging two sets of Ring Halbach Arrays and HOPG disks facing each other.A rotation speed of 200 rps was obtained by suppressing the radial whirling motion of the rotor with a permanent magnet attached to the end of the rotor shaft and eddy currents generated in a copper block adjacent to it.The estimated braking force of the copper block due to eddy currents was calculated using a model in which eddy currents are considered to be the sum of virtual circular currents.
