A biased reptation model (BRM) is used to study the stretching of reptating polymer chains in electric fields. A universal length scale is shown to describe the chain conformations for all charge distributions. A new field-dependent disengagement time is necessary to describe the relaxation of initial states towards steady-state stretched conformations. Computer simulations and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) are proposed as techniques to study the properties of these polymers and their entanglements.
