The current challenge in two-photon fluorescence for biomedical imaging is to develop extremely bright contrast agents with long wavelength emission. A Förster resonance energy transfer-based supramolecular nanosystem via co-assembly strategy, capable of achieving the modulation of emission wavelength to near-infrared (NIR) range upon two-photon NIR irradiation, is introduced as a highly emissive and photo-stable contrast agent for deep tissue two-photon fluorescence imaging in vivo.
