A review is given on the methods of VUV radiometry and the uncertainties that can be achieved. The properties of radiometric standards, detectors as well as radiation sources, are described and various calibration techniques are discussed. Details are given on the uncertainties of the electron storage ring BESSY as a primary radiation standard. The responsivity of semiconductor photodiodes as transfer detector standards in the spectral range around 1 keV photon energy is determined from model calculations and the result is compared to a radiometric calibration based on the known spectral photon flux of the electron storage ring BESSY.
