Excitation of tyrosine solutions (pH 7.5) containing dipotassium phosphate was found to be accompanied by an appearance of a new emission band around 345 nm, with a specific quenching of tyrosine fluorescence. From the features of UV absorption and fluorescence excitation spectra, it is concluded that the new emission is due to the interaction between phosphate and tyrosine in the ground state.
