The magnetic flux distribution in a nonideal type 2 superconductor during the decrease of an external magnetic field below the lower critical field H c1 is discussed by the use of a modified critical-state model. The modification of the model is carried out by a semi-macroscopic investigation on the local force balance around trapped fluxoids in this field region. The present model leads to the magnetization curve which agrees well with the experimental data by Kes et al.
