The calanoid copepod Eurytemora is reported from several new inland localities, principally in the southern Great Plains of the United States. A review of zoogeographical information suggests that the recent spread of this copepod has been facilitated by human activities. The variety of mechanisms implicated in the invasion and persistence of Eurytemora in inland waters highlights its considerable ecological flexibility. Large reservoirs with relatively saline water present an ecological profile suitable for colonization. Many such reservoirs exist in the southern Great Plains.
