The deformation of the ideal perovskite phase at helium temperature in Na x WO 3 is investigated by nuclear resonance for a range of samples with x varying from 0.22 up to 0.84. The 23 Na resonance is monitored, showing two types of signal, and their intensity ratio is used to provide structural information. Hydrostatic pressures of up to 4 kbar are also applied to the samples, and the pressure dependence of the spin-echo width measured. The structural implications of the results are discussed in the framework of a model based on tilted WO 6 octahedra; no simple combination of WO 6 octahedra tilts can explain these low-temperature results.
