Ion Beam Assisted Deposition (IBAD) offers the opportunity to prepare highly textured templates for YBa2Cu3O7-δ(YBCO) coated conductors. We investigated a new simplified buffer layer architecture on mechanically polished stainless steel tapes with an amorphous Ta0.75Ni0.25bed layer. Cube textured TiN layers have been prepared by ion beam assisted pulsed laser deposition on these substrates. Consequently, highly textured YBCO layers were obtained with an (103) in-plane alignment of Δφ = 5.9° using an additional SrZrO3buffer layer. A maximum critical current density of about 2.9 MA/cm2was measured at 77 K in self-field. The films showed an improvedJc(H)-behavior compared to standard YBCO coated conductors.
