Thin films of iron are deposited both by electroplating and by evaporation, on (100) foils of copper. They display a well‐defined preferred texture with (110) planes parallel to the substrate. The shape, orientation, and size of the grains are discussed. Magnetic observations of the domain structure using electron microscopy show that the layers are effectively biaxial. Near thicknesses of 500 Å cross‐tie walls appear, which is in accordance with energy considerations. Finally, torque measurements lead to a value for K 1 .
