Background Processes associated with oil production, transportation and refining have an impact on the environment. Many traditional methods of large-scale recovery, such as skimmers of oil products paired with constant buoyancy and suction booms, partially mitigate the problem, but they leave residual environmentally hazardous hydrocarbon layers and other pollution on a micrometer scale, so scientific research and development of modern nanomaterials for oil spill response. Aims and Objectives Analysis of modern nanotechnologies for the creation of nanomaterials and dispersants for oil spill response. Results Methods of water purification from oil products using sorption technologies are considered. An analysis of research studies developing effective and safe recovery tactics at both macro and nanoscale is presented; new scientific developments of modern nanomaterials and dispersants for oil spill response. These technologies encompass a variety of mechanisms and compositions, including gels, nanoparticles, electrospinning nanomembranes, nanowire membranes, and magnetic composites. The development of biocompatible nanodispersants, which can be enzymatically decomposed in case of accidental biological absorption, are considered.
