Charge nurses must make complex leadership decisions in fast-changing clinical environments, yet education is often lecture-based and insufficiently applied. A large academic medical center implemented a simulation gaming workshop using a board game to strengthen charge nurse development. Between 2023 and 2024, 208 charge nurses participated. Competence, confidence, and systems thinking improved significantly after the workshop and were sustained at 3 and 6 months. Participants described the experience as engaging, practical, and more relevant than traditional instruction. Simulation gaming may offer nurse leaders a scalable strategy to strengthen frontline leadership readiness.
