The mean-square anisotropy of the molecular polarizability, 〈γ2〉, is calculated for the finite diamond lattice n-alkane chain with gauche—gauche-prime conformations prohibited, weighting all allowed conformations equally. The result is essentially 〈γ2〉=0.609NΓCC2, where ΓCC is the anisotropy of a CH2 unit and N is the number of units, as compared with 〈γ2〉=0.500NΓCC2 for the unrestricted diamond lattice model. The exact expression for 〈γ2〉 differs significantly from the above approximate expression only for chains having just a few CH2 units.
