The dilute delta -doping layer, grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), is an ideal system to study activated transport and the metal-insulator transition (MIT) in two dimensions (2D). The authors show the 2D anisotropy of magnetotransport with the magnetic field parallel and perpendicular to the doping plane. They observe a distinct negative magnetoresistance caused by quantum interference in the hopping transport.
