The transient current, due to the hopping transport of a carrier in a one-dimensional molecular crystal, in the presence of a random distribution of traps and an arbitrary value of external electric field, is determined exactly. The trapping time as a function of electric field is derived from the current decay curves. It is shown that the current ∝exp(−At1/2) for all t at low fields. This is in agreement with the simple kinetic approach to one-dimensional trapping and not with more recent sophisticated approaches. The current decays asymptotically as exp(−Bt) for high field.
