The magnetic properties of the iron-germanium alloys in α solid solution range were investigated. At about 4 wt. % germanium initial permeability, µ 0 and maximum permeability µ m have their maximum values, and coercive force H c and hysteresis loss W h have nearly their minimum values. The values are µ 0 =3000, µ m =35000, H c =0.16 Oe and W h =470 erg/c.c.·cycle, and specific electrical resistance ρ is 29µΩ-cm and saturation magnetization I s is 1680 G. The magnetostriction of polycrystal is measured. For the alloys containing less germanium than 6 wt. %, cold work can be easily done.
