The kinetic model of carbohydrate metabolism during differentiation in Dictyostelium discoideum has been refined and expanded. A new program designed to simulate long term metabolic changes is briefly described. The model consists of a metabolic map, initial metabolite concentrations, enzyme kinetic expressions and constants, enzyme activation functions, and time functions giving independent metabolite concentrations. Output of the model must be consistent with metabolite accumulation patterns observed during differentiation and with flux values determined in vivo. The specific activity of enzymes in vivo and changes in this activity as a function of differentiation are taken as unknowns in the analysis and are calculated or predicted based upon parameters assumed to be valid.
