Summary: A reversible type of sideroblastic anaemia was detected in a group of severe alcoholic patients with liver disease. All the patients exhibiting the marrow ring‐sideroblast abnormality (24 of the 33) were found to have folate deficiency, hypomagnesaemia and hypokalaemia. The clinical and biochemical findings in these patients are discussed in relation to the development of the marrow sideroblastic abnormality.
