report is a review of some recent work on the quantitative localization of enzymes in various central tracts and in individual nerve cell bodies of the mammalian nervous system. The review will be limited to the applications of the Linderstr#{248}m-Lang and Holter quantitative histo-chemical method (5, 4), as extended by Lowry (6). The advantages and limitations of the modified method have been discussed elsewhere (13, 16). Other authors in this symposium will review staining histochemical methods (Sidman), the use of other quantitative methods for localiza-tion (Giacobini), and the application of the classical quantitative histochemical methods to the cerebral cortex (Pope).
