The design of flat-fielded aspheric aplanatic singlets is discussed by means of the "plate diagram", and two flat-fielded singlets of n = 1.525 are designed. Flat-fielded mirror pairs are discussed, and it is shown that a sufficient condition for Seidel field-flatness is that object and image should lie on planes tangent to the mirror surfaces. Some formulae relating to reflecting microscope design are given.
