In order to clarify the mechanism of the coercivity in the CoCrTa perpendicular thin film medium, measurements of the angular dependence of the magnetic properties of the film were made using a biaxial VSM with partial demagnetizing field correction. The two possible mechanisms of magnetization reversal by nucleation and domain wall pinning are analyzed.
