In the present paper various factors influencing the kinetics of charge transfer processes at semiconductor electrodes are described. It is shown that the interfacial currents can be determined by the interfacial kinetics as well as by the transport of electrons and holes through the space charge layer. In the case of minority carriers created by light excitation the corresponding photocurrent‐potential dependence is frequently influenced by minority carrier trapping at the interface. In addition the influence of surface chemistry such as e.g. oxide formation is demonstrated for some photoelectrochemical reactions. Various models are presented and discussed in detail.
