In cathodoluminescence an energy transfer from the hole trap Tb3+ to the electron trap Eu3+ is working for oxyorthosilicates of X1 as well as of X2 type in the system Y2SiO5:Eu3+, Tb3+; being most powerful for the X2 series with medium Tb3+ concentrations. In photoluminescence an energy transfer Tb3+ → Eu3+ is present as well. Despite of the mobility of the excitation energy in the Tb3+ sublattice the X1 type proves less suitable than X2 structure. The mechanism of energy transfer in cathodo- and photoluminescence are discussed.
