A thermopile conduction calorimeter for the determination of the thermal properties of single crystals with applied electric field is described. The specific heat of triglycine sulfate is measured near the critical point and at several applied electric fields (0, 160, 300, 500, and 800 V/cm). An echelon-type function is used to obtain the best fitting curve and for E ≧ 300 V/cm the results confirm the predictions deduced from the thermodynamic theory of ferroelectricity.
