The construction of a bolometer is described in which the element - of evaporated gold supported by a thin plastic film - is 2.6 mm long, 0.2 mm wide and has a resistance of 15 Ω. In vacuum it has a sensitivity of 1.5 V/W and a minimum detectable energy of 3.6 × 10 -10 W, both measured at 10 c/s. The time constant in vacuum is 7 ms.
