Fourth-order many-body perturbation (MP4) theory calculations are reported for the static dipole polarizability of hydrogen chloride. The R/α0 dependence of the dipole moment (μ z /ea 0), the longitudinal (α zz /e 2 a 2 0 E -1 h) and transversal (αxx/e 2 a 2 0 E -1 h) components of the dipole polarizability tensor is quite well approximated by where R e/a 0 = 2·408645 and −0·4 < (R − R e)/a 0 < 0·4.
