Observations have been made of the domain structures on (110) [001] surfaces of grains in 3% silicon-iron sheet when stresses were applied to the sheet. The changes produced by a tension in the [110] direction or a compression in the [001] direction are similar to those observed by Dijkstra and Martius, but a more detailed analysis of the results is given. The occurrence of a chain-like structure is reported for high stresses. Tension applied in the [001] direction has little effect on the domain structure when the surface is a true (110) plane, but in grains with surfaces a few degrees off a (110) plane changes in pattern are observed. A mechanism for the changes is suggested.
