Meat represents an important product of human consumption, and meat consumption represents an indicator of the standard of living. Trade has resulted in a strong connection between peoples, contributing to the development of economies and societies, taking into account that they are based on a strong competition. The foreign trade of Romania and of other countries is confronted with a series of issues, the most important being: the level of market opening, the adjustment to the new trends at the international and European level, the increase of competition on the international, including the European markets. The aim of this contract is to highlight the importance of the trade of meat in Romania and which is its contribution to the development of the national economy. For the accomplishment of this aims, the evolution of the following indicators was analysed: livestock and meat production in Romania, meat import and export in Romania, import/export coverage ratio, trade contribution to the development of the national economy, meat consumption in Romania.
