A recurrent pheochromocytoma developing de novo in the neck of an 8-year-old white boy 2¼ years after the successful surgical removal of a right suprarenal pheochromocytoma is presented. The patient remained in excellent health for approximately 2¼ years after the removal of the original pheochromocytoma. He then developed a firm, slowly enlarging mass in the right side of the neck after an attack of tonsillitis. This mass proved to be a functionally active pheochromocytoma. No previous report of a recurrent pheochromocytoma developing at a different site many months after the successful surgical removal of the primary pheochromocystoma could be found in the American literature.
