This paper is a continuation of our previous work on the use of integral operators in solving scattering problems in a spherically stratified medium. In the present work we consider a transmission problem for the reduced wave equation in a spherically stratified medium. Based on a new representation for solutions of the reduced wave equation defined in interior domains, we derive the first Born approximation for the scattered field and indicate how our methods can also be used to obtain approximations for larger values of the frequency where the Born approximation may no longer be valid.
