Theoretical study demonstrates gravitational acceleration emerging from a spatial elastic energy gradient, indicating consistency with planetary orbits and dark energy.
We propose that space possesses a physical elastic property — a local specific elastic energy K̃(r) [m²/s²], termed the Gravito-Mechanical Constant (CGM) — from which gravitational acceleration emerges as a = ∇K̃. With K̃(r) = K∞ + GM/r, the Newtonian gravitational field a = GM/r² follows directly from the gradient, without dependence on the test body mass. We present this as a proposed physical mechanism for gravitation — not a replacement for Newtonian gravity or General Relativity, but a causal explanation for why gravity behaves as it does. A consistency test against Solar System orbital data confirms that the functional form K̃ ∝ 1/r is compatible with all eight planetary orbits within 1%. The non-zero vacuum rigidity K∞ > 0 distinguishes this model from the Newtonian potential, connects naturally to the cosmological constant Λ, and is numerically consistent with the observed dark energy density. All limitations of the current formulation are stated explicitly.
