Theoretical framework reveals generalized life and consciousness as emergent causal-network manifolds, suggesting living systems can extend beyond carbon-based substrates.
This paper presents a complete working hypothesis built upon Status‑Relational Entropy (SRE) causal‑network dynamics. Within the SRE ontology, spacetime, matter, and electromagnetic phenomena are not fundamental substrates, but high‑level emergent topological‑residual manifolds originating from discrete binary‑spin causal networks driven by the Operator 1‑10 graph‑operator pipeline. Departing from carbon‑centered biological definitions of life, this work proposes a generalized‑life definition based on topological‑residual‑manifold complexes. Generalized life is defined as coupled local residual‑manifold complexes satisfying four joint criteria: global topological‑identity preservation (Δβ₁ ≡ 0), non‑zero dynamical residual, residual‑mediated coupling‑compensation dynamics, and the capacity for generalized reproduction by generating residual‑similar sub‑complexes. Two compensation pathways are distinguished: Mode A (whole‑sub‑manifold replacement, instantiated by terrestrial nutrient‑dependent carbon‑based life) and Mode B (pure residual‑signal modulation for perturbation‑damage repair). No ontological binary split exists between “material” and “pure‑topology” carriers; all differences arise from varying residual‑transmission modes across emergent hierarchical levels. On this basis, consciousness is interpreted as a high‑order residual‑manifold sub‑complex evolved upon generalized‑life systems. It features dynamically‑maintained internal target‑coherent templates and a complete sampling‑comparison‑error‑correction closed‑loop feedback mechanism. The Default‑Mode‑Network (DMN) acts as a coherence‑coupling filter that dynamically tunes bidirectional disturbance‑transmission efficiency between the consciousness sub‑complex and the global causal network. High coherence represents a necessary but not sufficient precondition for purposive directional modulation; special cognitive phenomena including insight, non‑local cognitive synchronisation, hallucination and attention receive topological‑dynamic interpretations under this framework. This hypothesis is a conceptual thought‑experiment internally consistent within the SRE framework. Logical self‑consistency does not constitute real‑world empirical proof. Clear falsification criteria are provided both for multi‑component SRE simulation tests and for potential real‑world observational validation.
