The fractionation of gibberellin-like substances and its change in amount in developing seed of Sechium edule were investigated. Three active zones (Factor I, Rf 0-0.26; Factor II, Rf 0.26-0.53; and Factor III, Rf 0.53-0.80) were recognized on chromatograms of an ethanol extract from seeds, developed with an ammoniacal butanol solvent. The total amount of these factors reached a maximum of 0.75μg gibberellin A3 equivalents per seed on the 32nd day after anthesis. Factors I, II and III seem to be identical with “water-soluble” acid and neutral gibberellin-like substances, respectively. Acid substances seem to be identical with any gibberellins A1-A9.
