Rotating electrodes are used to model flow conditions in electrochemical systems where mass transfer affects the reaction rate. Mass transfer correlations are used to relate the model system to the prototype system through equivalence of the limiting current densities. This approach is used to apply laboratory polarization data obtained with rotating cylinder electrodes to corroding systems in turbulent flow conditions. Results of this technique are described for cathodic protection design in marine environments.
