Isolated involvement of the adipose tissue of the mesentery of the small intestine sometimes occurs without similar pathological change in the subcutaneous tissue or other abdominal organs. Four patients with this syndrome are described. Pain was a prominent symptom. An abdominal mass was palpable in two of four patients. Diagnosis is difficult without abdominal exploration. The condition is benign, and spontaneous recovery is likely. Therefore, it is important to make a correct diagnosis and to limit the surgical procedure to obtaining biopsy material.
