The population of Asian immigrant children has grown rapidly in the past three decades. Public schools need to recognize the cultural characteristics and learning styles of this population in order to work with them effectively. In this article, different backgrounds of Asian immigrants are identified, and Asian cultures related to children's learning are discussed. The methods utilized in this paper include literature review, interview, and observation. Twenty families from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan with thirty‐one children, age ranges from 9 to 21 years, were interviewed. Observations based on the interviews and suggestions for teaching Asian American children are made.
