THE purpose of this communication is to report an outbreak of staphylococcal infections on the Surgical Service of the Veterans Administration Hospital, Manchester, New Hampshire, the measures taken to control these and prevent further infection, and the early results obtained. It will be seen that the probable solution of this problem depends upon the return to basic principles of rigid asepsis on the part of all concerned with handling the surgical patient.That an increased number of infections with antibiotic-resistant pyogenic micrococci in hospitalized patients is occurring commonly at present is obvious, and a large literature devoted to this subject . . .
